It's hard to believe that the school year is almost over!
In celebration of a great school year of reading, here's a Wordle of the top ten books read this year at Bunger:

This Wordle is also posted in the Media Center.  Post your guess for the titles of the top ten in the comments and come collect your smartie from me in the Media Center!

February is going to be a very busy month in the Bunger Media Center!  Our first (and only) book fair is coming soon!  We've added some new parts to our book fair this year.  I think it's as easy as 1, 2, 3...

#1 - The Online Book Fair
The online book fair will be open February 14th - March 5th. You can preview book from our book fair, email wish lists to family & friends, and order books or items that are not part of our book fair.  All items ordered are shipped to Bunger for free!
Please share our online book fair web site (http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/bungermiddleschool) with your friends & family online using facebook, twitter, etc!

#2 - One for Books - Evansdale Boys & Girls Club
This year our goal is to put more books in the hands of kids.  We are asking each student to donate one dollar or loose change to help buy books for the Evansdale Boys & Girls Club. Every time a student or staff member donates to One for Books we will display their name on a book plate in the Media Center and it will go into a drawing for a free book of their choice from the book fair. Donations can be made anytime in the Media Center or before homeroom February 20th - 24th.

#3 - The Book Fair
The Book Fair will be open February 23rd, 24th, 27th, 28th, 29th from 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 pm. in the Media Center and March 1st from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. during conferences.

If you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer to help with the book fair please call the office or email me directly at rogersc@waterloo.k12.ia.us.

I look forward to seeing you at the book fair!

I've been busy reading and want to share some books that you might enjoy reading as well!

First, I just finished Middle School, the Worst Years of My Life by James Patterson (AR Level - 4.5, Points - 4). I laughed out loud reading about how Rafe Khatchadorian deals with bullies, crushes, classes, family, and his plan to break every rule in the code of conduct before the school year is out.  The second book in the series, Middle School, Get Me Out of Here! will be published May 7th, 2012.

Second, I finally read Divergent by Veronica Roth (AR Level - 4.8,  Points - 16) which was recommended for fans of the Hunger Games series. Beatrice Prior lives in dystopian Chicago where society is broken up into five factions based on the character traits of selflessness, bravery, honesty, intelligence, and peacefulness. I found myself thinking about the characters after I finished reading the book, which is always a good sign. The second book in the trilogy, Insurgent, will be published on May 1st, 2012 and the first book is set to be turned into a movie.

Third, I found the graphic novel Kit Feeny: The Ugly Necklace by Michael Townsend (AR Level - 2.5, Points 0.5) at a grocery store in Michigan over winter break.  It is actually the second book featuring Kit Feeny. In The Ugly Necklace, Kit sets out to get a present for his mom's birthday that will out shine his twin sisters' efforts. Kit and his best friend go treasure hunting, dress in disguise, and get help from their principal dressed as Elvis. There are lots of laughs and fun drawings. Kit Feeny: On the Move is the first graphic novel in the series.

Finally, I read the first three books of the Fallen series by Lauren Kate (Fallen AR Level - 5.7, Points - 16; Torment AR Level - 5.4, Points - 15; Passion AR Level - 5.1, Points - 14). The story centers around the romance between Luce, a mortal, and Daniel, a fallen angel.  In Fallen, Luce is sent to a reform school in Georgia and finds herself drawn to Daniel even though he is rude and seemingly uninterested in her.  Honestly, I enjoyed the third book, Passion, the most because I found it to be the most interesting.  Fallen in Love, a book of short stories about the characters will be published January 25, 2012 and the fourth book in the series, Rapture, will be published June 12, 2012.
You are always welcome to come talk to me about the books above or any other books you've read. I'd love some new reading recommendation or to help you find a book that you can't put down.  You know where to find me. :)

    Hunger Games Survey

Since Mrs. Reedy and I can't keep Hunger Games on the shelf, it only seems appropriate to share the movie trailer.  Enjoy!
The movie comes out March 23, 2012, which means you still have time to read the books BEFORE the movie debut!  You can get more information at the official movie website or at author Suzanne Collin's web site as well.  Finally, you may want to check out Divergent by Veronica Roth.  I haven't read it yet, but it has been suggested for fans of the Hunger Games series.
