Independent Reading Expectations
6th Grade
7th Grade
8th Grade
- Students are encouraged to try a variety of genres of literature, and they are taken through the process of evaluating books and building volume in reading. Students conference will create multi-media projects that help showcase each book they read. Students will be required to read one book during Quarter 1 and two books during Quarter 2.
7th Grade
- Students are expected to read six books of their choice each quarter (three should be completed by midterm). We encourage students to explore a variety of genres but ultimately want to foster in them a love of reading. Students will have some time to read in class, but will also need to read outside of school to reach their goal. After reading a book, the student will log its information electronically using Google Forms.
8th Grade
- In 8th grade students are expected to read 40 books of their choosing during the school year, though with limited access to the library this year that number will be lower. First quarter expectation is five books, and English 9 students will be expected to read seven. Time is provided in class, but it is expected that students spend at least 30 minutes at home reading in lieu of homework. After reading a book, the student will log its information electronically using Google Forms.
